Dr. Wang has been conducting research on railway engineering for more than 30 years. He is an expert on planning and designing of railways for Chinese National railway and urban railway systems.

Dr. Wang’s research fields focus on information and intelligent technologies for railway survey and design. He has been the PI for 30 plus research projects include more than 10 ministerial and provincial projects, publishing 50 plus papers. He has received numerous awards including 4 ministerial and provincial level rewards and several department level rewards. He has won a bronze medal of Chinese National Excellence in Engineering Design with his “Integrated Software System for Railways Survey and Design”. He has won the Scientific and Technology Advancement Award of Hebei province with his “Human-Computer Interactive Railway Line Design Technology”. For the areas of urban railway planning and design, he has won the Scientific and Technology Advancement Award of the Chinese Ministry of Railway with his “Theory and Technology for Accelerated 3D Design for Urban Railways”.

In recent years, Dr. Wang has been focusing on CAD, GIS, and BIM integration to develop a true 3D, life-cycle information software platform for railway systems. It can be used to accelerate the auto-generation of 3D modeling for rails, supporting geo-layers, and underground structures. This research product can also be applied to intelligent design, construction, and operation for civil engineering infrastructure.

Dr. Wang serves as the Chief Member of the Rail Lines Committee and the Deputy Chief Member of the Railway Station committee of the Chinese Railway Association. He is also the Deputy Chief of the Hebei Railway Association and a member of the Chinese Railway Safety Council.
